What to Expect

Your journey, step by step.

Taking the first step isn't always easy — knowing what comes next makes it lighter. Here is the general process from an initial request through clinical recommendations.

  1. 1

    Complete new-patient intake

Use the secure Ocean Friends form to share new-patient information with BSPS, or call (816) 228-8393 if you need help first. Set aside time for the questionnaire; BSPS reviews the information and confirms scheduling separately.

  2. 2

    Comprehensive evaluation

The evaluation process depends on the patient's age and concerns. It may include an interview, clinical observation, and appropriate assessment tools. The clinician will explain what to expect for your visit.

  3. 3

    A clear, personalized plan

After reviewing the available information, the clinician explains findings and recommendations. If therapy is recommended, goals and timing depend on individual needs.

  4. 4

    An individualized therapy plan

If therapy is recommended, the clinician explains the plan, goals, and how progress will be reviewed. Treatment recommendations depend on individual needs.

  5. 5

    Progress, together

The care team may provide progress updates, appropriate home strategies, and coordination with other providers when clinically appropriate and authorized.

Before you start intake

You may not need every item, but having the information that applies to the patient nearby can make the questionnaire easier to complete.

  • Patient and caregiver contact information
  • Referring doctor or provider details, if applicable
  • Insurance and payment information
  • Relevant developmental, school, treatment, feeding, and medical history

Before a scheduled evaluation, gather any reports BSPS asks you to bring and write down the questions you want the clinician to address.
